Overview

Perform estimating services for pre- and post-sales projects for Black Box Edge products and services. Review and analyze customer scopes of work as the basis for determining how much a project/job will cost, how long the project/job will take to complete and how much revenue it should generate.  Analyze factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment rentals, specific software and hardware, project location, permitting, and licensing.  Gather details and compile data to accurately analyze, estimate and control production & delivery costs according to specifications of projects. Evaluate bid specifications and drawings and obtain all information required to successfully bid and win the project.  

Provide continuous monitoring of open assigned bids, RFP’s and estimates to inform management of either new business awards or lost opportunities.  Ensure project performance through the prioritization of safety and environment needs, schedule, costs, equipment, staff levels, material, subcontractors, equipment maintenance, and quality. Ensure estimating activities meet corporate client satisfaction objectives as well as internal and external SLAs. 

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of timely and accurate pricing for complex security solutions to include Video Surveillance, Access Control, and IDS.
  • Review schematic designs and blueprints
  • Develop accurate forecast of the cost, size, and duration of future projects. Collect and analyze data on all of the factors that can affect costs, such as materials, labor, location, duration of the project, and special equipment requirements.
  • Participate in pre-bidding decision making efforts; review preliminary drawings and specifications, perform site visits, gather information related to site access; the availability of electricity, access to network centers, and related. Fully document information obtained.
  • Prepare estimate of the materials, labor, subcontractors and equipment required to perform the statement of work (SOW). Determine prevailing wage applicability for each project and work with human resources to obtain wage data.  Prepare documentation using standard estimating forms, filling in dimensions, numbers of units, and other information.
  • Analyze bids made by subcontractors and build into the estimate.
  • Identify equipment needs, sequence of operations, labor specialties, crew size, and physical constraints at the site as well as allowances for wasted materials, inclement weather, shipping delays, and other factors that may increase costs must be incorporated in the estimate.
  • Develop a cost summary for the entire project, which includes the costs of labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, overhead, taxes, insurance, markup, and any additional costs that may affect the project.
  • Establish budget and control factors for project costs and review with sales and the project management office.
  • Establish and maintain an open-ended database of proposal responses according to company processes and tools.
  • Continuously develop and enhance knowledge, skills and abilities through various learning channels to expand technical and non-technical capabilities. Ensure further expansion of computer aided design systems and understanding of products & services that BBOX supports.
  • Meet all financial performance objectives for area of responsibility and take corrective action as needed.
  • Implement and make recommendations to improve methodologies, core competencies and processes for deployment engineering to ensure stable and quality product & service delivery consistent with company objectives and client expectations.
  • Maintain and enhance a strong client service-oriented environment focused on problem prediction, detection and resolution. Proactively identify and remove barriers to meeting client expectations.   Provide timely documentation of issues, action plan and outcome.  Achieve all client satisfaction objectives and internal and external SLAs. 
  • Actively and consistently recommend and support all efforts to improve, simplify, automate and enhance day to day service delivery operations and the client experience.
  • Foster and contribute toward collaborative working relationships within NACS operations and across all levels and departments of the organization to execute estimating functions and company priorities.
  • Achieve performance targets established by leadership for applicable Key Performance Indicators. Utilize escalation and exception paths, processes and systems to report current performance and make recommendations for improvement of performance.

Qualifications

  • Associates’ Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field, or equivalent, relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years estimating experience with structured cabling, fiber optic and low voltage systems design, engineering, estimating and installation. Telecommunications Industry (large to complex projects) (voice-data infrastructure/backbone/Data Centers) preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in physical security industry or 3+ years in pre-sales support/estimating position with access control and CCTV/IP video surveillance experience preferred
  • Understanding of electrified door hardware and accessories
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) credentials preferred.
  • Skilled in review and analysis of infrastructure scopes of work as the basis for determining how much a project/job will cost, how long the project/job will take to complete and how much revenue it should generate.
  • Demonstrated success in analysis of factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment rentals, specific software and hardware, project location, permitting, and licensing with a track record of accurate change management, job costing and budgeting.
  • Depth of knowledge with a wide variety of cabling materials and methods of installation as well as NEC Code, local code(s), and EIA/TIA/BICSI Standards as well as site, local, and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand telecommunications plans and Construction Specifications Institute (Communications and Electrical Safety & Security - CSI Division 27 and 28) as they relate to the structured cabling work.
  • Proven skills in reliability and dependability demonstrated through completing tasks on time and with minimal supervision, punctual and present for work, informing appropriate individuals when work will not be completed in agreed upon time frame.
  • Strong customer service and effective interpersonal skills necessary to communicate, solve problems, and negotiate with tact and diplomacy. Ability to effectively present information to team members and respond to questions, inquiries, or complaints.
  • Demonstrated experience of continuously expanding and leveraging knowledge of technology, market and industry trends with success in identifying, recommending and implementing best practices and methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively across all functional groups to optimize product & service offerings, fostering a seamless internal and external client experience and track record of timely and accurate issue resolution.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Outlook, SharePoint, AutoCAD, MS Visio and related cloud based technology systems.
