Under minimal direction, applies technical and operational knowledge to configure, operate, and maintain two-way radios and microwave systems; analyzes performance statistics to support tuning, automation, and optimization activities; establishes, composes, and maintains security, capacity, and business continuity controls and documentation; interacts with an operating company or business segment to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical requirements, and organizational direction; collects, defines, and organizes detailed user requirements; defines, plans and deliverables for assigned projects; understands and complies with project budgets; conceptualizes, constructs, tests, implements, and/or operates integrated infrastructure solutions; recommends training plans; and leads continuous improvement activities.
In this position, the candidate will provide reliable integrated P25 voice and data service to Sandia and Kirtland Air Force Base first responders and the workforce at large. The candidate will participate in and oversee the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of a Motorola Astro P25, Motorola MCC7500, NICE Logging system and microwave systems supporting point-to-multipoint architectures and point-to-point architectures. The LMR Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving problems with the equipment deployed in Sandia’s radio network environment. Support customers across the radio life cycle from the early conceptual phase of defining requirements to the installation, operation, calibration, and maintenance of equipment. Install, operate and maintain the primary Sandia/DOE/Kirtland Air Force Base UHF radio trunk system and back-up UHF Repeater site. Operate the Sandia security and EOC radio systems (primary and back-up communication centers, dispatch centers, portable, mobile, and base station equipment). Operate land mobile radio (LMR) for Sandia and NNSA/ABQ (programming portable and mobile radios, creating code plugs, creating talk groups, cloning radios). Document and maintain radio service records to support performance measurements, track equipment, collect costs, and initiate purchase requests to support service area.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Preferred candidates possess: Associates (AS) degree in Engineering, RF Communications or equivalent certification or 4 year’s RF Electronics experience, as well as GROL license or equivalent.
