Black Box is seeking an experienced Avaya Communications Manager-6 Technician to work in the Black Box MCAS Miramar, CA location.

 

Overview

Able to provide installation, operation, testing and maintenance services for the telecommunications network aboard MCAS Miramar.  The Maintenance Technicians shall have a minimum of 10 years voice and data network experience in the installation, troubleshooting and operation of inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) communications infrastructure using copper and fiber optic cabling.  Tasks that the technicians shall be experienced/qualified to perform include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

On-site Install, Moves, Adds & Changes (IMACs): The technician shall provide the physical labor required to install, troubleshoot and maintain voice and data network connections aboard MCAS Miramar.

  • IMACs are defined as day-to-day activities associated with connection of cable pathways, configuration, de-installation, relocation, and installation of hardware in support of voice and data communications. 
  • The objectives of this service are to install equipment with a minimum disturbance of the day-to-day operation and to provide the end-users on-the-spot familiarization with the equipment. Activities concerning hardware relocation or de-installation, and changes to configurations should be performed as scheduled and to the established standards, with minimum loss of end-users’ productivity time.
    • Install: Providing pathways for various services from the source to the service delivery point and connecting Government provided hardware as needed. Prior to completion technicians will conduct manufacturer's standard installation tests to verify operability.
    • Move: The movement of an active circuit from one location to another. A move of more than ten (10) circuits is to be considered a project. Prior to completion technicians will conduct manufacturer's standard tests to verify operability.
    • Add: The installation of an additional service or peripheral to an existing circuit.  Prior to completion technicians will conduct manufacturer's standard tests to verify operability.
    • Change Hardware: Performing a modification to an existing circuit such as a hardware upgrade (to add functionality) or a downgrade (to remove functionality). Prior to completion technicians will conduct manufacturer's standard tests to verify operability.
    • Software: Performing a modification to an existing circuit configuration to add or remove functionality. Prior to completion technicians will conduct standard tests to verify operability.
  • Technical Knowledge: Maintenance Technicians shall be capable of installation, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of the following types of circuits.
    • Digital T1 circuits
    • Direct in Dial (DID) circuits
    • Tie Lines (Trunks) Defense Switched Network (DSN), emergency recall systems and least cost routing.
    • Ring Down circuits
    • Central Office (CO) Trunk connections and configuration
    • Outside Plant (OSP)
    • Inside Plant (ISP)
    • American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Cabling Standards
    • Primary Rate Interface (PRI) circuits
    • Basic Rate Interface (BRI) circuits
    • Video Teleconferencing (VTC)
    • Digital and Analog circuits
  • Direct Out Dial (DOD) circuits Certifications and/or Licenses - Maintenance Technicians shall be qualified as Avaya Certified Associates (ACA).
  • Additional Technician Duties: The Technician shall perform communications support services for special events and systems as identified below.
    • Crash Alarm System to ensure a high level of availability for this critical communication component.
    • Emergency ring down circuits (i.e. elevators, Air Traffic Control tower, medical, fire alarms, Provost Marshal Office circuits, alarm circuits, etc.).
    • Air Show, Presidential visits, and other special events as directed by the Government.
    • Maintain cable records in Configuration, Accounting Information Retrieval System (CAIRS) Telecommunications Management System (TMS) database.
    • AT&T Direct Connect circuits.
    • Monitor, and maintain Uninterruptable Power Supply battery system at main telephone switch building, and six remote locations.
    • Monitor, and maintain on base T1 network.
    • Basic Rate Interface (BRI) and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) for video teleconferencing (VTC).
    • Monitor environmental systems (i.e. air conditioning for main telephone switch building, and six remotes, etc.).
    • Analog and digital station hardware, software, and technical services for telecommunication solutions
  • The applicant should be Avaya CM6 certified and familiar with the installation, operation and management of the following:

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Systems or Business discipline with 5 years or greater direct relevant technical experience may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in programming and maintenance of the Avaya CM and subtending systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and word processing.
  • Working knowledge of IP Subnetting, QoS and IPV4/IPV6 model.
  • Working knowledge of routers and switches.
  • Working knowledge of Avaya Aura Conferencing, Avaya Aura Messaging, Avaya Aura Contact Center Avaya Session Manager, Avaya System Manager and Avaya OneX.
  • Candidate must possess or have the knowledge to pass the ACIS- Avaya Aura® Communication Manager and CM (R6.x) Messaging certification.
  • Candidate must possess or have the knowledge to pass the ACIS- Avaya Session Manager and System Manager certification.
  • Experience with Marine Corps policies, processes and procedures.
  • Able to obtain a Security Clearance if required.
  • Current ACIS and/or ACSS certification in the Avaya Communication Manager product line.
  • Ability to concisely and effectively communicate and present complex technical information to a varied audience, including technical and non-technical customer representatives.
  • Familiarity with Avaya Engineering and Provisioning tools, including Avaya Solution Designer (ASD) and Global Registration Tool (GRT)
  • Candidate must possess or have the knowledge to pass the ACIS- Avaya Aura® Communication Manager and CM (R6.x) Messaging certification if required.
  • Candidate must possess or have the knowledge to pass the ACIS- Avaya Session Manager and System Manager certification if required.
