The Environmental Health and Safety Director will oversee organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. In addition, ensure that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Also, ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Finally, will ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.



  • Provides leadership in safety, health and risk management to the organization in a manner consistent with the Black Box values and our business objectives
  • Leads the safety strategy for the business through the development of programs, as well as facilitate the implementation of processes and procedures throughout Black Box.
  • Ensures all company policies and programs meet or exceed US and Canadian regulations, workers compensation (WC), DOT and other legislation/government standards
  • Ensures the continual improvement of our safety standards and sets annual improvement objectives and targets, monitors the results and audits progress 
  • Leads the continued development, implementation and process improvement of the organization's autonomous safety, health and risk reduction programs
  • Organizes the safety and health program which includes planning, training, auditing, budgeting and implementing
  • Facilitates behavioral safety audit training and performs behavioral safety audits
  • Recommends policies and procedures for implementation in support of the company's goals and objectives regarding safety and occupational health and risk reduction issues
  • Monitors safety, health and risk reduction results and provides analysis of these results with a view to improvement
  • Participates in the investigation of serious accidents and injuries and co-operates in the preparation of material and evidences for company use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations
  • Ensures all required reports are compiled and submitted to required agencies and maintains all records and statistics including the review of experience rating reports
  • Manages Workers Compensation (WC) programs including claims management, the return to work program and the appeals process
  • Devises, supervises or coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency of company personnel in procedures, hazard identification, accident investigation and management responsibility
  • Consults with company personnel on aspects on the design and use of equipment and facilities as they relate to the health and safety functions
  • Represents Black Box in related community or industry groups, associations or programs.
  • Undertakes studies and projects as assigned by management




  • Bachelor's Degree in occupational safety and health or similar discipline, or five (5) years of equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive understanding of occupational safety and health principles and practices may be substituted for a degree 
  • 8-10 years of experience working in EH&S.  Minimum 3 years of responsibility for multi-site organizations preferred
  • Understanding of OSHA, DOT and Worker's Compensation regulations
  • Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously in safety environment and be an active resource for all North American facilities
  • Proven ability with success to be an outstanding coach and leader who is process driven
  • Strong influencer and communicator with experience in program design and training
  • Strong ability to work in changing environment, see through complexity 
  • Ability to be effective in a highly matrixed environment, to effectively communicate with and influence all levels of the organization and drive change
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working in a demanding, high performance work environment and team oriented culture 
  • Must be able to think and act strategically, but also be willing to “roll up sleeves” for all safety functions
  • Willing to travel at least 50%
