Overview

Summary: The Senior Payroll Specialist is involved in the operation of the payroll function which involves the preparation, distribution, maintenance, and analysis of payroll and tax records. Using automated information systems and following company policies and regulations the Senior Payroll Specialist assists the Payroll Manager to ensure that all federal, state, and local laws, regarding pay and payroll related taxes, are in compliance. The Senior Payroll Specialist will report to the Payroll Manager.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews Payroll Specialist and Union Payroll Specialist balanced Payrolls prior to being submitted
  • Develop professional relationships with HR Shared Services, Benefits, HRIS, Legal and Accounting teams
  • Ensures that the daily tasks of the Payroll team are set with regards to priorities and deadlines.
  • Provides training to new staff and updates staff with changes and\or modifications to payroll processing
  • Implements procedures to make sure that the company is in compliance with government court orders and requests for Payroll related information
  • Reviews and documents employee over payments after termination
  • Provide feedback and makes recommendations for process changes and/or policy updates
  • Respond promptly and courteously to all payroll inquiries
  • Reviews and approves termination and off-cycle checks as required
  • Helps resolve tax related issues
  • Communicates with managers, coworkers, peers, outside vendors, and agencies in a professional manner
  • Assists with Quarter and Year-End reporting
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations and policies as set forth in the handbook
  • Responsible for processing payroll in absence of coworker(s)
  • Responsible for execution of other assignments assigned by the Payroll Manager

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration strongly preferred. A combination of education and payroll experience will be considered.
  • Experience with multi-state and multi-entity payrolls
  • Understanding the reporting needs of Union contracts
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as a team player
  • Experience with Timekeeping solutions
  • Must have the ability to:
    • Deal with confidential material
    • Work within tight deadlines, work well under pressure and multi-task
    • Complete work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions
    • Communicate effectively with management, peers, and coworkers
