    The Government Solutions Division of Black Box Network Services is an information systems integrator that designs, implements and maintains telecommunications and data solutions for Federal customers worldwide.

    Black Box is seeking a qualified Wireless LAN System Administrator to provide onsite full-time support to the US Marine Corp Enterprise Network (MCEN) Wireless Local Area Network at Marine Corps Base Butler in Okinawa, Japan. Occasional travel to Camp Smith in Hawaii will be required.

    Overview

    The Level 2 MCEN-N WLAN System Administrator is responsible for the initial implementation and day-to-day management and sustainment of the MCEN-N WLAN Master Controllers (Aruba), backup controllers, and management platforms that will support the centralized management and operation of the MCEN-N WLAN enterprise system.

    Under general supervision, the WLAN System Administrator leads a team of network operations specialists in performing the day-to-day activities of the Okinawa Network Operations Center (NOC) and the Marine Information Technology (IT) Support Center (MITC) WestPAC Okinawa and MITSC MidPAC Hawaii to include all Cyber Security activities. The WLAN System Administrator ensures effective and efficient operation of network systems, architecture and topology. S/he supports the deployment and oversight of network operations specialists ensuring that all operating systems are adequate, functional, and conform to operation security policies and procedures. The WLAN System Administrator assists with the development and application of business processes to ensure appropriate service levels. S/he develops and implements standards, procedures, and processes for the NOC, and participates in strategic network planning initiatives, steady state operations planning sessions, and contingency operation planning and development working groups.

    The MCEN-N WLAN System Administrator will support the MCEN-N WLAN implementation to include integration of the local controller and Wireless Access Points (WAP) to the MCEN-N WLAN architecture. Ongoing sustainment responsibilities include configuration changes and updates, support to change management processes, Tier 1 and 2 (Level 2) system troubleshooting in support of the WLAN systems, mitigation of cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and other subject matter expertise support as required.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plans and supports injection of new technologies and implementation of technology refresh;
    • Confers with and advises administrators, user representatives, and technical personnel regarding development and design of integrated network solutions;
    • Prepares recommendations based on monitoring results, tools analyses, and forensics;
    • Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures regarding network equipment, maintenance, and monitoring;
    • Prepares and submits status reports;
    • Coordinates and schedules routine system maintenance, oversees application of proactive Cyber Security measures, and manages reaction to Network Defense requirements;
    • Develops and maintains system architecture and operational documentation;
    • Assists leadership in determining tactical and strategic direction of the organization as it relates to emerging operational support technologies;
      • Researches, analyzes, and recommends new operational support technologies, tools, and techniques;
      • Coaches others on the application of new operational support technologies;
      • Identifies, develops, and updates operational support standards and procedures;
    • Evaluates potential solutions and systems architecture to ensure that they meet technical, operational, and cyber security accreditation requirements;
    • Leads and/or participates in meetings with internal teams, stakeholders, and vendors to review requirements, address open issues/questions, and close gaps;
    • Produces and delivers technical writing to describe system designs, implementation methodology, and other technical data;
    • Participates with corporate strategic planning teams;
    • Maintains technical expertise by staying abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends and Department of Defense standards, directives and policies.

    Qualifications

    Required Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or related field;
    • Active Security Clearance at the Secret level;
    • 5+ years of relevant experience designing, configuring, monitoring, and trouble-shooting IP-based Wired and Wireless Enterprise Networks, to include engagements with multiple manufacturers such as Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, HP, Extreme, Arista, Dell, and Ruckus using commercial and open source management tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, Splunk, and others;
    • The Level 2 WLAN System Administrator shall be currently certified at DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II. Individual certifications approved for the overarching DoD IAT Level II certification include one of the following:
      • GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) Certification
      • CompTIA Security+
      • Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP)
      • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)

     

    The successful candidate must possess advanced knowledge of IP Subnetting, QoS and IPV4/IPV6 model. Candidates also:

    • Must have proven ability to utilize standard Microsoft Office suite applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to produce technical documentation, including statements of work, white papers, technical reports, and briefings for a variety of audiences with technical knowledge ranging from novice/user-level to advanced/engineering-level;
    • Must work well under pressure and time constrained environment with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Must be willing to travel In the Continental United States (CONUS) or Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS);

    Candidates must meet criteria to pass a background check, must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the DoD Secret level, must have a valid United States (US) driver’s license, and must have the ability to obtain a valid passport. Prior experience with Aruba ClearPass and Airwave is strongly preferred.
