    Tyto Athene is seeking a qualified senior level Wireless LAN System Administrator to provide onsite full-time support to the US Marine Corp Enterprise Network (MCEN) Wireless Local Area Network at multiple facilities at a USMC base in Northern Virginia, with support to remote networks. Some travel may be required.


    The MCEN-N WLAN System Administrator is responsible for the initial implementation and day-to-day management and sustainment of the MCEN-N WLAN Master Controllers that will support centralized management of the MCEN-N WLAN enterprise system. The MCEN-N WLAN System Administrator leads and coordinates operational support and implementation activities for Local Area Network (LAN), Campus Area Network (CAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN) service offerings encompassing heterogeneous platforms. The WLAN System Administrator will report to the Marine Corps Cyber Operations Group (MCCOG) and will assist the MCCOG throughout the MCEN-N WLAN implementation to include integration of the local controller and Wireless Access Points (WAP) to the MCEN-N WLAN architecture. Ongoing sustainment responsibilities include configuration changes and updates, support to change management processes, Tier 3/Level 3 system troubleshooting in support of local and remote systems, ongoing assessment and application of patches and updates, mitigation of cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and other subject matter expertise support as required.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assists leadership in determining tactical and strategic direction of the organization as it relates to emerging operational support technologies;
      • Researches, analyzes, and recommends new operational support technologies, tools, and techniques;
      • Coaches others on the application of new operational support technologies;
      • Identifies, develops, and updates operational support standards and procedures;
    • Reviews distributed computing and network designs to select appropriate operational support strategies and ensure efficient use of resources;
    • Conducts system support design and performance evaluation reviews, prepares and submits status reports;
    • Assists with the development and application of business processes to ensure appropriate service levels;
    • Plans and supports injection of new technologies and implementation of technology refresh;
    • Develops and maintains system architecture and operational documentation;
    • Evaluates potential solutions and systems architecture to ensure that they meet technical, operational, and cyber security accreditation requirements;
    • Leads and/or participates in meetings with internal teams, stakeholders, and vendors to review requirements, address open issues/questions and close gaps;
    • Proactively assesses solution specifications in light of changing requirements, and recommends solution changes that optimize improvements in function, scalability, operation, interoperability, security, and system management;
    • Produces and delivers technical writing to describe system designs, implementation methodology, and other technical data;
    • Participates with corporate strategic planning teams;

    Maintains technical expertise by staying abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends and Department of Defense standards, directives and policies


    Required Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or related field;
    • Active Security Clearance at the Secret level;
    • 10+ years of relevant experience designing, configuring, monitoring, and trouble-shooting IP-based Wired and Wireless Enterprise Networks, including experience working with multiple manufacturers such as Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, HP, Extreme, Arista, Dell, and Ruckus using commercial and open source management tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, Splunk, and others;
    • The Level 3 WLAN System Administrator shall be currently certified at DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level III. Individual certifications approved for the overarching DoD IAT Level III certification include one of the following:
      • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Security
      • CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP)
      • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) or associate
      • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
      • Certified Enterprise Defender Certification (GCED) 
      • Certified Incident Handler Certification (GCIH)

    The successful candidate must possess advanced knowledge of IP Subnetting, QoS and IPV4/IPV6 model. Candidates also:

    • Must have proven ability to utilize standard Microsoft Office suite applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to produce technical documentation, including statements of work, white papers, technical reports, and briefings for a variety of audiences with technical knowledge ranging from novice/user-level to advanced/engineering-level;
    • Must work well under pressure and time constrained environment with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Must be willing to travel In the Continental United States (CONUS) or Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS);

    Candidates must meet criteria to pass a background check, must have a valid United States (US) driver’s license, and must have the ability to obtain a valid passport;
