Under minimal direction, applies technical and operational knowledge to configure, operate, and maintain information processing and telecommunications systems; analyzes performance statistics to support tuning, automation, and optimization activities; establishes, composes, and maintains security, capacity, and business continuity controls and documentation; interacts with an operating company or business segment to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical requirements, and organizational direction; collects, defines, and organizes detailed user requirements; defines, plans and deliverables for assigned projects; understands and complies with project budgets; conceptualizes, constructs, tests, implements, and/or operates integrated infrastructure solutions; recommends training plans; and leads continuous improvement activities; researches, evaluates, and stays current on emerging trends; coaches, mentors, and provides technical leadership to team members.
The Network Tier III designer must be capable of performing network engineering functions including: conceptualization, design, implementation, and optimization. Knowledge in the application of current and emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols is required. In this position, the Tier III Network designer is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving Tier III problems with the equipment deployed in the network environments. Review and resolve network related incident reports (expected to resolve a high percentage of problems, which are escalated from the Tier II staff). Make routing and switch configurations changes. Remove/redeploy, sanitize network hardware, monitor and analyze network performance in order to optimize the network and enable proactive network management. Design, configure and implement 802.11x wireless access points and the related infrastructure. Support remote WAN connections to Sandia and other locations throughout the country. Coordinate with Telecommunication Infrastructure Design team for new cable installations. Document work performed (including issues) in service request workflow log prior to closing service request or transitioning work to another team.
The successful candidate shall have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate degree with 5 years of experience providing technical IT support in a corporate setting. Candidate must understand IT Service Management and delivery within industry best practices framework such as ITIL.
