    Responsibilities

    Description/Responsibilities:


    The NEC Technician will be certified and trained or working towards certification for the following:

    • NEC SV9500 switching system
    • NEC SV8300 switching system
    • UM8700 voice mail system
    • NEC’s Call CenterWorx, QueWorx, and Global Navigator applications
    • NEC’s OW5000 platform and UA5200 application
    • NEC’s MA4000 application
    • Familiarity with MTS Expense Manager is desirable but not required
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Server and Red Enterprise Linux operating systems is desirable but not required

     

    The technician will be responsible for;

     

    • Moves, Adds, Changes, and Deletions of station equipment, ACD programming, and voice mailboxes
    • Cross connect installation to support telephone equipment installation
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration and operation of the telephone switch and related equipment to include support for software upgrades, patching, firmware/driver updates
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of the UM8700 voice mail system to include support for software upgrades, patching, BIOS/firmware/driver updates
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of the SV8300 switching system to include support for software upgrades, patching, firmware/driver updates
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of the QueWorx and Global Navigator applications to include support for software upgrades, patching, BIOS/firmware/driver updates
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of the Expense Manager systen to include support for software upgrades, patching, BIOS/firmware/driver updates
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of the OW5000 platform, UA5200 application, and MA4000 application to include support for software upgrades, patching, BIOS/firmware/driver updates
    • Maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of survivable remote gateways and UG50 appliances to include support for software upgrades and patching
    • Housekeeping of telecommunications office areas, equipment rooms and storage areas
    • Perform system backups and other daily/monthly/quarterly preventative maintenance tasks as defined in the Program’s Preventative Maintenance program
    • Record keeping and daily/weekly status reporting to the Black Box Program Manager, Prime contractor, and Veteran’s Administration Telecom lead
    • Investigation and resolution of equipment alarms
    • Investigation and resolution of trouble calls
    • Other telecommunications-related duties as assigned by the Program Manager or alternate
    • Responsible for monitoring and resolution of all alarms received on any voice system or associated adjunct.
    • Responsible for being first point of contact and “on call” for alarm monitoring groups and on any service affecting outage involving more than 5 end users or any Telco circuit. “On-call” will alternate with the other technician assigned to the VA Dallas facility
    • Responsible for providing regular feedback to the Program Manager on all aspects of the operation.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve tickets as received and defined in the trouble ticketing system.

    Responsible for performing regular system back-ups and disaster preparedness activities.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements:

     

    • Position requires self-direction, a high level of motivation and drive for success.
    • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Excel, Word, Visio, and Outlook.
    • Knowledge of Black Box products and services preferred.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
    • Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented.
    • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors and employees at all levels of the organization.
    • A valid driver’s license is required.
    • The ability to pass a background check and obtain a VA PIV badge is required.
    • Must be a US citizen

    Ideally the successful candidate would have:

    • Strong character with leadership ability and a creative mindset that can be leveraged for creative problem solving.  An ability to effectively manage ambiguity and change
    • Strong verbal, written, presentation and public speaking skills are essential
    • Strong computer skills with emphasis on applications are required; technical writing skills is required
    • Strong human relations skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment and create, manage and maintain formal and informal networks
    • Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the Team on behalf of Black Box
    • Ability to follow established guidelines set forth by the Customer, Black Box, and the Program Manager for conduct and work performance
    • Attention to detail and the ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously is required
