    JOB OVERVIEW

    Duties:

    In this position, the MicroStation Drafter (MS-D) will report directly to the Project Manager (PM). The following duties are typical but not-all inclusive:

    • Prepare complex drawings, layouts, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs for telecommunications projects using computer-aided design software. Drawings to be based on detailed sketches and redline markups provided by designers and engineers.
    • Under minimal direction, maintain current project documentation, records of capacity and capability for the inside & outside cable plant and assist in planning future expansions
    • Ensure that deliverables are accurate and compliant with industry and Department of Energy drafting standards and specifications as well as Black Box Network Services Quality Assurance standards. Demonstrate personal accuracy and support continuous improvement and change management efforts. 
    • Perform fieldwork, documentation, research and drafting tasks of engineering data as requested by managers
    • May assist with minor computations such as material quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
    • May assist in coordinating deliverables with other groups involved on the same project to minimize duplication of effort and errors. 
    • Continue to learn and apply standards, systems, document control, departmental guides and company policies and procedures. 
    • Maintain up to date working and technical knowledge of all procedural and improvement changes to computer hardware and software applications
    • Develop and implement cable management database
    • Track databases to verify accuracy
    • Assign cable names and track cable resources
    • Consolidate other sources of cable documentation into one formal database
    • Create and coordinate projects to allocate or retrieve resources
    • Develop, implement, and maintain deliverable and drawing production, revision and system backup procedures
    • Perform other related duties as assigned and necessary
    • Contribute to process development and improvement

    Responsibilities

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Associate’s degree or equivalent years of experience providing technical drafting support in a telecommunications environment
    • Extensive experience drafting, updating and maintaining telecommunication infrastructure, OSP and structured cabling design drawings.
    • Extensive experience organizing and managing telecommunications drawing file systems, including drawing naming conventions, version control and cataloging.
    • Previous experience utilizing geographic information system (GIS) to manage data collection, manipulation, storage, and map production is preferred.
    • The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a collaborative approach to problem solving, possess strong oral and written communication skills and is someone able to work with minimal instruction/supervision on a day-to-day basis.
    • Working knowledge of applications, such as Microsoft Visio that may be required to modify and develop less complex deliverables based on a variety of design inputs.
    • Operational knowledge of inter & intra building telecommunications cable standards
    • Operational knowledge of OSP structured pathways
    • Basic knowledge of Data Center layout and design
    • Basic experience interpreting NEC (National Electric Code)
    • Basic experience interpreting NFPC (National Fire Protection Code)
    • Basic experience with the Construction Management Process

    Required Qualifications:

    • Minimum: High School Diploma
    • Proficient with Bentley MicroStation v8i or latest version and Microsoft Office suite
    • Must have fundamental knowledge of MicroStation drafting practices
    • Capable of working effectively with co-workers to fulfill customer requests.
    • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Ability to concisely and effectively communicate and present complex technical information to a varied audience, including technical and non-technical customer representatives.
    • Is an effective time manager, allowing for involvement in special task order projects as assigned by the Program Manager.
    • Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the Team on behalf of Black Box.
    • Ability to follow established guidelines set forth by the Customer, Black Box, and the supervisor for conduct and work performance.
    • Ability to isolate system problems and malfunctions; take timely corrective action to meet conditions of Black Box contract.
    • A valid driver’s license is required.
