    General Duties:

    Under minimal direction, applies technical and operations knowledge to configure, operate, and maintain information processing and telecommunications systems.  Work requires use drafting and CAD techniques and a working knowledge of the terms and procedures of Telecommunications.  Familiar or recurring work is assigned in general term.  Unfamiliar assignments include information on methods, procedures, sources of information, and precedents to follow.  Simple revisions to existing drawings or computer models may be assigned with a verbal explanation of the desired results.  More complex revisions are produced from sketches, computer models or specifications that clearly depict the desired product.

    Typical assignments include:

    • Preparing several views of a simple gear system from a layout and manual references and obtaining dimensions and tolerances from manuals and by measuring the layout.
    • Preparing and revising detail and design drawings for Telecommunication Projects as the constructions and installation of Telecommunication equipment, plant wiring, and the manufacture and assembly of printed circuit boards. Drawings typically include details of mountings, frames, guards, or other accessories; conduit layouts; or wiring diagrams indicating transformer sizes, conduit locations and mountings.
    • Drawings base and elevation views, sections, and details of new bridges or other structures, revising complete sets of roadway drawings for highway construction projects, or preparing block maps, indicating water and sewage line locations.

    Responsibilities

    Specific Duties:

    In this position, the Documentation & Drafting Technician maintains current project documentation, records of capacity and capability for the inside & outside cable plant, assists in planning future expansions.  Develop and implement cable management database. Track databases to verify accuracy. Remove drop box numbers from appropriate database(s) after drop boxes are physically removed from the plant. Assign cable names and track cable resources.

    Consolidate other sources of cable documentation into one formal database. Create and coordinate projects to allocate or retrieve resources. Develop, implement, and maintain procedures. Contribute to process development and improvement. Report to customers areas of concern where the available capacity is at 10% or less.  Document work performed (including issues) in request work flow log prior to closing or transitioning work to another team.

     

    • Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the team on behalf of MTS.
    • Operational knowledge of inter & intra building telecommunications cable standards
    • Operational knowledge of OSP structured pathways
    • Basic knowledge of Data Center layout and design
    • Basic experience interpreting NEC (National Electric Code)
    • Basic experience interpreting NFPC (National Fire Protection Code)
    • Basic experience with the Construction Management Process
    • Extensive experience drafting telecommunication infrastructure designs
    • Extensive experience reading cut-sheets (equipment and material specification sheets)
    • Experience with document version control within CAD drawing systems from A&E firms

    Qualifications

    Required Training/Certification:

    • Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite experience
    • Must have basic understanding of CAD drafting systems
    • OSP and structured cable experience and blueprint design/documentation
    • Datacenter layout/design
    • Design tools/suite such as Microsoft Visio

     

    Qualifications:

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
    • Strong computer skills with emphasis on applications are required.
    • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously is required.
    • Must be a US citizen
    • Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work may be required.
    • A valid driver’s license is required.
    • The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 5 years of experience providing technical Information Technology (IT) support in a corporate setting.  Good knowledge of IT Service Management and delivery within industry best practices framework such as ITIL.
