  • Overview

    Need experienced Fiber Optic Technician for installation, termination, testing, and/or troubleshooting of various types of fiber optic cabling to include (but not limited to) armored, ISP, OSP, singlemode, and multimode.  Please note that this is a Contract to Hire Opportunity.

    Responsibilities

    Primary functions include:

    • Install, terminate, test all manner of fiber optic cabling installations in both indoor and outdoor environments, to include confined space/manhole work on occasion.
    • Installation of fiber patch cords for fiber uplinks and some hardware installations as required.
    • High degree of customer interaction required at times
    • Position is 1st shift Monday-Friday, potentional overtime possible

    Qualifications

    Cabling Experience/knowledge: 

    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience terminating all forms of fiber optic cabling to include both indoor and outdoor fiber, singlemode and multimode, 10-gig, etc.
    • Extensive experience in terminating ST, SC and/or LC fiber connectors.
    • Solid knowledge on how to terminate all forms of anaerobic, Uni-Cam, UV, hot-melt, etc. Anaerobic is the primary termination style that will be necessary.
    • Extensive knowledge on running Fluke fiber testers and OTDR’s, as well as how to interpret the test results and to understand them.
    • Mechanical and/or Fusion splicing skills are also required.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience terminating CAT5/CAT5E/CAT6/CAT6A copper cabling, RG-6 and/or RG-11 coaxial cabling.
    • Basic knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems
    • Basic knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology is also required.

     

    Professional Skills/Attributes:

    • Excellent written and verbal skills.
    • Possess extreme attention to detail and be safety conscience.
    • Must also be highly proficient in Micro Soft Word and Excel.
    • Must possess outstanding problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Must be able to work independently and manage one’s own time.

     

    Education/ Certifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED at a minimum.
    • Fiber certifications are highly desirable.
