    Tyto Athene is seeking an experienced Move Add Change Technician (MAC) to work at the Department of Energy in the Oak Ridge, TN location.


    In this position, the MAC will report directly to the Operations Manager (OPM). The following duties are typical but not-all inclusive:

    • Complete customer generated change requests and incident tickets.
    • Composes and updates operational documentation such as checklists, procedure charts, and status reports
    • Understands and complies with record keeping requirements, protocols, and standards;
    • Demonstrates general knowledge and proficiency with computing and/or telecommunications technologies
    • Install, maintain, and support voice and data end points, circuits, telecommunications’ systems and transmission systems located throughout the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR). Responsible for performing telephone activities in telecommunication distribution rooms and user areas throughout ORR
    • Install properly operating station equipment (telephones, etc.) at the end user’s location.
    • Install distribution frame patches and disconnects in telecommunication distribution rooms
    • Test and verify telephone cable connections. Repair or replace faulty cables and connectors
    • Work with the support team to update the cable plant description, equipment inventory and equipment location documentation
    • Document work performed (including issues) in service request workflow log prior to closing service request or transitioning work to another team
    • In support of OSP, field-verify infrastructure pathways and availability
    • Recondition and test TDM telephony equipment for warehouse spares
    • Support service order planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout. Document work performed (including issues) in service request.
    • Solve most first level incident tickets related to telephones and voice mailboxes plus some ancillary equipment
    • Duties assigned may also include network cable installation and cable management tasks, to include:
      • Routine on-site inspection of PBX telecom rooms to make sure all equipment is performing correctly according to manufacturer specifications.
      • Technicians will be responsible for keeping their areas of responsibility neat and clean at all times.
      • Perform such preventative maintenance as required to maintain performance of the telecommunication systems and to minimize repair interruptions.
    • Operational knowledge of the basics of passive-optical network architectures
    • Knowledge of industry standards for installation and maintenance of communications infrastructure components (cable and electronic components)
    • Operational experience supporting telephone and network equipment changes and installations
    • Operational experience testing, verifying, and documenting changes to telephone and network system equipment
    • Ability to follow documented procedures in the execution of daily activities and to track circuit detail


    Required Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma.
    • 1-3 years of experience with ANSI/TIA Cabling Standards.
    • 1-3 years of experience installing and maintaining wire and cable infrastructure in an environment equivalent in scope and complexity on or similar to a DOE facility.
    • Capable of working effectively with co-workers and fulfill customer requests.
    • Has strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite experience.
    • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work may be required.
    • Ability to concisely and effectively communicate and present complex technical information to a varied audience, including technical and non-technical customer representatives.
    • Is an effective time manager, allowing for involvement in special task order projects as assigned by the Program Manager.
    • Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the Team on behalf of Tyto Athene.
    • Ability to follow established guidelines set forth by the Customer, Tyto Athene, and the supervisor for conduct and work performance.
    • Ability to isolate system problems and malfunctions; take timely corrective action to meet conditions of Tyto Athene contract.
    • A valid driver’s license is required.
    • The ability to pass a background check and obtain a Department of Energy security clearance.
    • Must be a US citizen.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Understanding of the OSI model.
    • Support to the Government telecommunications systems, including inside and outside cable system repair, maintenance, and installation. 
    • Understanding of LAN/WAN systems typically utilizing CAT 3/5E/6 copper, fiber, and/or coax cable and outside plant cabling to include copper and fiber-optic.  
    • Experience in the installation of single, dual, triple, or quad LAN and voice jacks as required.
    • Experience and proficiency in installation, termination and testing of premise/building/Network cabling to include Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Fiber-Optic, Coax, Riser and Backbone Cables.
    • Ability to interpret CAD design drawings and adhere to NEC, BICSI - EIA - TIA specifications.
    • Possess solid experience in complete pre-cabling preparation, installation of patch panels, punch down 66/110 blocks, 110-patch panel, and various data and voice jacks.
    • Knowledge of OSP engineering, construction, conduit, cable and splicing of fiber optic networks.
    • Preparing and maintaining fiber assignments and records.
    • Cable route(s) Surveys and map and diagram creation.
    • Estimate material, installation, and engineering labor costs, for budgetary analysis.
    • Developing detailed engineering prints.
    • Isolating Faults.
    • Operating and interpreting results of OTDR traces.
    • Light Level and Power meter readings etc.
    • DOE reservation access training including General Employee Training (GET), Radworker II, Respirator Fit, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Asbestos Worker Training, Bucket Truck Training, DOT Card, Construction Safety, and First Aid and CPR.
    • Experience with telephones, telephone systems, and circuits, to include the following: Norstar Systems, Merlin Systems, Meridian Systems, Avaya CS-1000, Avaya Gateway 450, Avaya VOIP, Cisco VOIP, Call Pilot Voice Mail, PA, T1 Equipment, Alarm and Monitoring Equipment, Fiber and Copper Installation and Maintenance, 911 System, Octel voice mail system, OC-3 thru OC-48 maintenance and orders, Discs carrier systems, Adtran installation, Fujitsu systems, and back-up generators.
