    Responsibilities

    General Duties:

    Under minimal direction, applies technical and operational knowledge to configure, operate, and maintain information processing and telecommunications systems; analyzes performance statistics to support tuning, automation, and optimization activities; establishes, composes, and maintains security, capacity, and business continuity controls and documentation; interacts with an operating company or business segment to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical requirements, and organizational direction; collects, defines, and organizes detailed user requirements; defines, plans and deliverables for assigned projects; understands and complies with project budgets; conceptualizes, constructs, tests, implements, and/or operates integrated infrastructure solutions; recommends training plans; and leads continuous improvement activities.

    Specific Duties:

    In this position, the Telephone CO Switch Technician provides support and maintenance for all switching equipment and peripherals including but not limited to the Lucent 5ESS, Avaya CM 8730, AVAYA, remote ORMs, remote EXMs, remote EAIUs and ACD system.  Use defined procedures to operate and troubleshoot the 5ESS, remote 5ESS nodes, and associated equipment.  Install and administer frame patches and disconnects at the phone switch. Configure and maintain telephone ACD system. Use Sandia-defined procedures to perform operations on the telephone switch, remote service systems, and associated equipment to support equipment changes and installations. Document changes to the telephone system, including the reason for the changes. Maintain PRI connections to telephone firewall appliances. Perform routine monitoring of system alarms during business hours. Respond to and resolve trouble calls.

    Update and maintain appropriate and required documentation of telephone system using Sandia-specified procedures and locations.

    Qualifications

    Education/Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree desired or equivalent years of experience providing technical IT support in a corporate setting.
    • Must understand IT Service Management and delivery within industry best practices framework such as ITIL.
    • Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the team on behalf of Tyto
    • Operational knowledge of the basics of a three-tier network architecture
    • Operational knowledge of the basics of passive-optical network architectures
    • Knowledge of industry standards for installation and maintenance of communications infrastructure components (cable and electronic components)
    • Operational experience supporting telephone and network equipment changes and installations
    • Operational experience testing, verifying, and documenting changes to telephone and network system equipment
    • Ability to track circuit detail
    • Operational experience making telephone switch and distribution frame changes, including frame patches and disconnects
    • Operational experience responding to and resolving telephone trouble calls
    • Operational experience monitoring telephone system alarms
    • Operational experience maintaining 5ESS and Avaya Switches, AVAYA VoIP system, 5ESS nodes, and auxiliary switches
    • Operational experience supporting telephone equipment changes and installations
    • Operational experience with ACD systems – including system setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
    • Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite experience with an emphasis on applications
    • Must have excellent understanding of CO Switching systems
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
    • Must be a US citizen.
    • Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work may be required.
    • A valid driver’s license is required.
