  • Overview

    The Quality Engineer will facilitate compliance to applicable internal and external requirements during the product development cycle and commercialization of new products. The Engineer will collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing & Product Marketing to help facilitate the successful execution of the new product development process and launching of robust products. This process will include testing, validation, inspection & documentation as per the Black Box quality assurance guidelines. This position is responsible and accountable for all Quality Engineering deliverables and also has responsibility for process improvement and sustainability.


    Primarily Roles & Responsibilities

    • Analyze and assess customer contract quality requirements and the organization's capability to comply with requirements; ensure that these requirements are flowed down to departments, suppliers, subcontractors and contract manufactures
    • Monitor compliance to contractual requirements and documented procedures to assure compliance of the deliverable end items
    • Develop quality control plans and analyze statistical data to establish quality levels of finished products and take appropriate action to address and resolve issues when established quality levels are not met
    • Assist in auditing and maintaining the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
    • Identify areas for process improvement by using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste and non-value added processes
    • Support continuous improvement activities by developing processes and work instructions, conducting training and working with other Team Members to implement improvements
    • Conduct inspections of incoming parts and outgoing products according to the technical specifications and applicable quality standards
    • Interact with suppliers, purchasing, production, and product management to contain and resolve non-conformances and provide Quality Assurance support
    • Perform root cause failure analysis and determine, validate, and implement corrective actions
    • Report to management on any observed trends and possible risks to product quality and compliance
    • Conduct supplier audits, evaluations, qualifications and monitor supplier performance

    Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

    • Working knowledge of measuring equipment and the ability to accurately measure and weigh products using various tools and test equipment (micrometers, calipers, multi-meters)
    • Strong computer skills including QA applications, statistical software, word processing, spreadsheets and databases
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve complex issues and make decisions without supervisory assistance
    • Ability to interpret specifications and product requirements
    • This position requires a moderate level of hand to eye coordination and dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, move around equipment and is required to walk within the building. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis and 50 pounds on an infrequent basis
    • Excellent verbal & written skills and sound interpersonal skills
    • Able to travel to other Black Box facilities, suppliers and customers as needed


    Education/Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or a combination of related work experience, education, and training is required
    • 0-2 years’ work experience in a Quality function or similar discipline
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 requirements and industry standards preferred
    • Training and Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 preferred
    • Knowledge of IT infrastructure products and applications a plus
